Susanna Osbourne is quite content with her life. Orphaned at age 12, she’s been fortunate in having had a wealthy sponsor pay for her education at a girls’ school in Bath and in having been offered a position there upon her graduation. On a rare holiday away from her school, Susannah is introduced to Viscount Whitleaf who she instantly recognizes from her childhood. An attraction between them soon turns their friendship into something more. There’s a complication, of course, having to do with his mother and the death of Susanna’s father.
Regency Romances, set in the early 1800’s, focus on manners and inflexible gender and class roles. They are often reminiscent of Jane Austen’s novels. Simply Magic is part of a loosely related series about each of the women who teach at Miss Martin’s school for girls. Balogh’s regency romances are charming and feature women with minds of their own.
